I have 3 days until my half. All last week I have been doing marathon pace runs with so much ease. Running alone can be tough at times. I need somebody to push me. My tempo runs are getting a little bit faster. My long runs are not draining me like they used to. Now I go out for a mere 6.5 miler today... it was kinda tough. I havent had a rough run like this in quite some time. I couldnt get my breathing down and was flopping all over the place. I tried my Fastwitch 3 shoes and my thin socks I wear for my 5k's. Got half way into the run and the socks had already run up my feet. Well, wont be wearing THAT during my race. For my tempo runs lately, I have been doing more of a progression run. Slow... faster... faster'er. Today just wasnt my day. I hope this is not a harbinger (yes I'm smart) to what's to come. I really want to get under 1:40:00 for this half marathon. I will be TOTALLY happy with a 1:35:xx.
I'm just nervous because this is my first long race since my marathon 6 months ago. I have only averaged about 20-30 miles per week. MAX!! Who said low-mileage runners cant compete?? Now its 3 days out, and I'm struggling to run... I know i'm supposed to be tapering, but it still shouldnt feel tough to keep a pace that was normally easy. I just dont want to bonk like the Indy-Mini that I ran. I know absolutely nothing about this race. I dont know where the hills are... where the water stations are... if theres a Gu station (not that you need one for a half). Heck, there is not even a map of the course. Wont need it being that I'll be following the crowd anyways. Just wish me luck. I really need to start doing something in 2009. I'll be back to report on my triumph or debacle... and I run on...
